Meet the Spring Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.

We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at 6 a.m. or when you’re staring at a broken spring and wondering if you’ll make it to work. Every person on this page lives in the Spring area or close by. We train together, answer the same phone line, and hold ourselves to the same rule: fix it right the first time, or come back and make it right. No arguments, no paperwork chase. That’s the 90-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s not a slogan on a truck. It’s how we actually work.

Our People

Carl Dutton, Owner

I started this company in 1984, back when Spring was a different place and garage doors were a lot simpler. The name Mainspring comes from the coil that carries the full weight of your door. It’s the one part that, when it fails, nothing else matters. I’ve spent 42 years learning how these systems fail in Texas heat, in Houston humidity, and in the sudden cold snaps that roll through Montgomery County. I still answer the phone myself some nights, and I still drive out when a job goes sideways. My rule is straightforward: tell the customer the flat price before any work starts, and if our technician doesn’t get it right, we return and fix it free. No dispute, no forms to fill out. I’ve got three grown kids and a fishing habit I don’t indulge nearly enough.

Marcus T., Lead Technician

Marcus has been with us for 14 years and handles the calls nobody else wants: torsion spring failures on double-wide doors, cable disasters after a car bumps the track, and opener logic boards that quit in the middle of a thunderstorm. He’s factory-certified on LiftMaster, Genie, and Chamberlain systems, and he’s the one who trains new hires on how to wind a spring safely. Marcus grew up in the Oak Ridge North area and still lives there with his two dogs. He keeps a cooler of iced tea in his truck from March through October, and he’s been known to finish a job, wipe his hands, and ask if there’s anything else bothering the door that the customer forgot to mention.

Elena R., Senior Installer

Elena joined us in 2016 after eight years in commercial door installation, and she brought a precision with her that changed how we measure new door jobs. She specializes in Clopay and Amarr steel and carriage-house installations, and she’s particularly good at the retrofit work common in older Spring neighborhoods like Cypress Trails and Lexington Woods, where the openings aren’t always square and the headroom is tight. She’s certified in wind-load installation for Texas storm codes, which matters more than people think until a spring storm rolls through. Elena lives in Klein with her partner and their garden, which she talks about more than she probably realizes. She will not leave a jobsite until the door runs quiet and the photo eyes are perfectly aligned.

Darnell K., Service Coordinator

Darnell is the live voice you get when you call (936) 280-5668 at 11 p.m. on a Saturday. He’s been with Mainspring for six years, and before that he dispatched for a commercial HVAC outfit, so he knows how to triage an emergency without panicking the caller. He schedules the routes, keeps track of which truck has which springs, and makes sure our technicians aren’t driving from The Woodlands to Tomball for no reason. Darnell is from Houston originally, moved to Spring for the schools, and has a teenager who just got a driver’s license, which he mentions as a source of mild terror. He remembers repeat customers by voice and will ask if the same cable snapped again or if it’s something new.

Jesse P., Apprentice Technician

Jesse started with us in 2023, straight out of a mechanical trades program at Lone Star College. He’s working toward his journeyman certification under Marcus, and he’s already competent on standard spring and roller replacements. We put him on tune-ups and maintenance calls first, which teaches you to spot trouble before it breaks. Jesse was born and raised in Spring, knows the back roads between Alden Bridge and Creekside Park, and asks more questions than some veterans, which we consider a feature, not a bug. He lives with his grandparents in the Ponderosa area and is saving up for his own place. He still double-checks his spring winding counts, which is exactly what we want.

One Standard, Every Job

Every technician on this page wears a uniform, has passed a background check, and works under the K.E.Y.S. code we train to: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. The trucks leave our Spring warehouse stocked with springs, cables, rollers, and openers from the brands we service: LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Craftsman, and Raynor. Most repairs finish in a single visit because we don’t believe in making you wait for a part we should have brought.

The 90-Day Done Right Promise applies to every job, no matter who signs the ticket. If it’s not right, we come back and make it right. It’s written on every invoice, and we don’t make you fight for it. That’s been the rule since 1984, and it’s not changing.

Our standing offers stay up year-round: $50 off any repair over $250, a free second opinion on any written estimate you bring us, an $89 seasonal tune-up, and a permanent 5% discount for seniors and veterans. The price we state before work begins is the price on the bill. No surprises.

Call (936) 280-5668 any time. A live person answers, even on holidays.
