Which Amarr Models This Applies To

Amarr has built doors in several series over the years, and the cable drum setup varies by door weight and lift type. The Classica collection, Stratford series, and Heritage models all use different drum pitches and cable diameters. If your door was installed between 2000 and 2015, it likely has the 400-8 or 400-12 standard-lift drum. Newer Amarr doors, especially the Olympus and Lincoln series with heavier insulation, often run the 5250 high-lift drum with a thicker 1/8-inch cable.

The part number matters. Amarr labels are usually on the interior side of the bottom section, but weather and time fade them. When the label is gone, we measure drum diameter, cable length, and count the grooves to match the replacement. Signs Your Amarr Cable & Drum Replacement Is Failing

• The door sits crooked when closed. One cable has slipped or frayed, letting that side of the door drop lower than the other. The drum may also have a worn groove that no longer grips the cable evenly.
• Loud clanking or grinding during opening. The cable is not seating cleanly into the drum grooves. On Amarr doors with torsion springs, this usually means the drum has developed a flat spot or the cable has started to unwind from its anchor.
• Visible fraying, rust, or broken strands on the cable. Cables wear from the inside out. By the time you see rust near the bottom loop, the internal strands have already weakened. Spring’s humidity swings accelerate this.
• The door jams halfway up or down. A cable has come off the drum entirely, throwing the door out of balance. The opener keeps pulling on one side while the other hangs dead weight.
• The drum wobbles or looks tilted on the torsion tube. The set screws have loosened, or the drum bore has wallowed out from years of load. This is more common on Amarr doors over 15 years old with original hardware.
